Completed in 1995, this house has bedrooms on the lowest level with the main living accommodation above it. The compact plan, high levels of insulation and passive solar gains from the sun space make for an energy efficient design.

Two houses, Fair Isle
Two houses incorporating passive solar porches, solar water panels and wind turbine.

Massie House, South Whiteness
Late Bronze and Iron Age settlements at Jarlshof and Scatness have inspired the building form which is completely integrated into the landscape, with only the entrance and the living accommodation left protruding out of the hillside.
Sheltering the highly insulated building envelope will reduce the energy requirements of the house down to very low levels and it will be powered using solar panels and photovoltaic cells run through a UPS battery system.
