About the Society
The Shetland Architectural Society

• Was established in 1988.
• Is made up of architects and architectural professionals in Shetland.
• Has 25 paying members.
• Meets regularly to keep abreast of current issues.

The Societys Aims:

• To promote good architecture and architects in Shetland.
• To raise the awareness of both the commercial and public client of what architects do and the services they can offer.
• To promote the architectural professions.
• Promote good value for money.

What the Society offers:

• A first point of contact with the architectural profession in Shetland.
• An introduction to Shetlands architectural practices.
• Members who must hold personal indemnity insurance.
• Members who are on the national Architects Registration Board (ARB) – see Architects Registration Board links.
• A broad and diverse range of architectural styles and skills as well as in-depth knowledge of construction and technical understanding.
• Advice on renewable energy options for all kinds of buildings.
• Decades of building experience in Shetland including large & small scale commercial, residential, industrial and private housing.
• Members who must undertake a minimum level of Continued Professional Development (CPD) in the industry.

Barbara Dinnage retires - Barbara has retired from Shetland Islands Council after 21 years. During this time Barbara designed a wide range of projects, notably a range of rural primary schools. Her last school at Nesting was selected as a Scottish Executive case study. Barbara has not given up architecture - she is continuing to do work on her home in France.
